Frequent conflict. Broken trust. Defensiveness. Emotional disconnect. Infidelity. These are just a few reasons couples may find themselves in need of therapy. But with the right help, warmer, closer, more intimate relationships are possible.
I approach couples counseling using Relational Life Therapy (RLT). RLT was developed by Terry Real, a psychotherapist, speaker and author who specializes in relationship concerns. RLT is a form of couples counseling that aims to move you out of your knee-jerk reactions and into a more compassionate and collaborative part of yourself. I can teach you how to move into an US consciousness based on relational empowerment instead of the individual empowerment touted by our You vs Me culture.
Having trained directly under Terry Real for many years, I am now facilitating practicums and mentoring small groups for therapists in training as a faculty member of the Relational Life Institute. I work with therapists from around the world as they progress through the certification program to become a Relational Life Therapist.
Couples counseling is available for non-heteronormative couples as well as cishet/straight couples at all stages of their relationship, including premarital counseling. My office is welcoming and affirming of couples who live an ethically non-monogamous lifestyle.
Regardless of how you identify yourself and structure your relationship, you are safe here and will receive experienced, informed, nonjudgmental, competent, and relationally-focused care.
